Ever since myce obtained log files from a Nexus 5 we have been receiving detailed information about specs of Nexus 5 and features of Android 4.4. This log file of 10,000 lines could prove very costly for Google as the announcement of Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 may not bring any surprises. Anyhow we now have some detailed news about the camera on the Nexus 5, thanks to myce again.

The Nexus 5 will have a 8mp rear camera from DigitalOptics with an aperture of f/2.4, a diagonal of 5.7 mm and a  sensor of size 1/3.2″. These may not sound like awesome specs, but wait till you hear that the Nexus 5 has a MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) camera module, the first smartphone to have MEMS camera module with model number as IMX179. MEMS camera module 7 times faster than current smartphone camera  when it comes to focusing and can capture multiple images much faster than other standard smartphone cameras.

MEMS also makes it possible to shoot six consecutive images at different focus zones. All images go in one file and afterwards it’s possible to view them and refocus by clicking on the part of the image you would like to focus on.

Another advantage of using a MEMS camera module is saving battery life and at only 5.1mm you can expect the Nexus 5 to be slimmer. More details about MEMS camera module can be found here.
