If you’re a true Android geek chances are you’ve heard of that little Android site by the name of Xda. Xda recently shut their market place down due to moderators being called to put fires out by flamers, trolls and scammers that gave XDA unneeded headaches, lawsuit tnreats and a spread out moderator team.  Xda prides themselves on being an Android development site, not a Marketplace or an online gadget store.  They also realized they still wanted a site where devs could pick a phone up at a decent price and the fact that a lot of Xda users still wanted to “Swap” and change gadgets like they do their socks.  This is where Swappa comes in… More on that later

As a lot of you know Craigslist is a great place to find Android gadgets, but for a few reasons Craigslist isn’t always ideal. One of the problems with Craigslist and other sites is the lack of love for CDMA devices.  Even though Verizon and Sprint are two of the biggest U.S. carriers it can be a real pain in the butt when it comes to trading (unless its an unlocked device like the HTC Droid DNA, iPhone 5 etc), selling and buying CDMA devices. Just another example of Craigslist not being an ideal place to trade, buy or sell expensive gadgets is you have no idea who you’re meeting up with, you have no idea what their true intentions are and the biggest factor for me anyway, you can’t check their feedback (trollolol ;-) ).

Here is where Swappa comes in and puts all of those worries to rest.  When Xda shut their marketplace down they passed the marketplace buton on to Swappa.  Swappa is an online Android gadget trading, buying and selling site.  They’ve used countless measures to protect the buyer and seller by the use of PayPal, a feedback system, a large percent of these buyers and sellers are regular XDA members, they require pictures of your gadgets with your Swappa/XDA username posted in the picture of the gadget you’re selling, moderators that truly are looking to protect everyone and other precautionary steps to prevent scams or bad experiences.

For example….  If you’re sitting on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III and drooling over the Verizon Galaxy S4, chances are if ya add a few bucks to your Galaxy S III you’ll find someone that may do that trade. I currently have a Verizon HTC Droid DNA with a wireless charger and I’m looking to get a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 to add to my collection. I’ll post this offer on Swappa, possibly adding a few bucks on my end and will once again be the proud owner of a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

To conclude this article I’m just going to say use your head!  Check peoples feedback, Google their username and stick with your gut feeling. If someone is asking you to mail your shiny new HTC One first and they have zero feedback or shotty feedback, then you probably know what the right thing to do is. DONT MAIL YOUR $600 DEVICE FIRST!

If you’re reading this from a Samsung Galaxy S III and wishing you had the Galaxy S4, head on over to Swappa, create an account, follow all of the rules and get that dam Galaxy S4 :-) .

And remember!  If its too good to be true, it probably is.

Happy trading folks!  Be careful though, trading gadgets can become a bit addicting.
