Yesterday, Google posted the updated data( Data collected during a 14-day period ending on June 3, 2013 ) on Android platform version numbers and percentage of devices running on each version.
Jelly Bean is up to 33% now showing steady growth ( 4.1.x on 29% and 4.2.x on 4% )
58.6 % of devices are running 4.0.3 or higher version of Android which is a healthy number. 36.5% of devices are still running Gingerbread and that’s not going to come down any sooner.
These numbers are built using data collected from each device when Google Play Store is accessed. Actual number of devices running earlier versions of Android may still vary as the data is collected only for 2 weeks and devices not accessing Google Play Store does not constitute to this data.
Google also posted data based on screen sizes and densities; hdpi & xhdpi devices constitute to 36.7% & 25.2% respectively.
Let’s hope devices running latest versions of Android increase more and more as Google is planning to release stock Android for top devices like HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 and promising to release regular updates.
