You may ask why an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF is even needed for your device. For the 99% of us that don’t flash or root, we don’t need this. For the rest of us that love to tinker, S-OFF gives you access to all partitions on your phone and the means to recover a $600 glass and aluminum brick if loading up a custom ROM goes horribly wrong (it happens to all of us).

The steps are easy enough to follow. Install WeakSauce from XDA and SuperSU from Google Play for temp root followed up with Firewater for S-OFF and unlocking the bootloader.

What this means is Verizon HTC One owners running Android 4.3 can S-OFF and unlock their bootloader to flash any partition. This bypasses Verizon’s stupid policy of blocking the HTCDev.com website tool which owners of other carrier models use to unlock the bootloader. Yes, now you can have custom ROM’s too!

Rumrunner s-off for Droid DNA on Android 4.2.2

Last week, we heard about the Android 4.2.2 JellyBean update coming to HTC Droid DNA on Verizon Wireless. Rollout of this OTA update has started and several users at XDA Developers confirmed the same. This update also includes the upgrade of HTC’s Sense UI to Sense 5.

To make the party even better, @beaups, famous for Facepalm, Moonshine, and Rumrunner S-Off methods for various HTC devices, has released a working Rumrunner S-Off method for users who have accepted the OTA and updated their Droid DNA to Android 4.2.2 JellyBean. If you need S-Off, head to rumrunner.us and download the device specific ( HTC Droid DNA -dlx ) files and S-Off your device as per instructions listed here.

Rumrunner S-off released for HTC One Max

beaups, recognized developer at XDA has released a s-off method for HTC One Max. He earlier released  rumrunner,moonshine and facepalm s-off methods for various HTC devices like HTC One, Droid DNA. HTC One XL etc.

It looks the same exploit method “rumrunner’ he released for HTC One is also working for HTC One max with some device specific changes. HTC One and One Max share same internals ( SoC ).

Head to rumrunner website and download these files, for Linux, for Windows and carefully read the prerequisites and instructions to achieve s-off on your device. An user confirmed that the exploit worked successfully on his device with firmware version 1.20.207 and he achieved S-off with SuperCID ( CID – 11111111 )

S-off for HTC One Max in the works

beaups, recognized developer at XDA, famous for rumrunner,moonshine and facepalm s-off methods for various HTC devices has started porting his rumrunner s-off method to HTC One Max.  HTC One and One Max share same internals ( SoC ) and porting rumrunner s-off method should be successful.  beaups has already got all the information needed like storage partition mapping etc to start working on this port.

Unlocking the bootloader will break fingerprint scanner functionality on HTC One Max. Relocking the bootloader won’t even fix that. Let’s hope we get s-off and a workaround for this issue on HTC One Max soon.

A few days ago we reported that HTC One on hboot 1.54 had been s-off’ed. Well the s-off has now been released and is called rumrunner. Please note this method will install stock unsecure kernel (by stock we mean Sense based kernel) so if you are on a custom rom it will result in a bootloop.

Good news for HTC One users on 1.54 hboot and waiting for working S-off method. XDA senior member Theshawty posted an image confirming that s-off achieved for his HTC One on 1.54 hboot , thanks to beaups, recognized developer at XDA who earlier introduced moonshine s-off for many HTC devices including HTC One and rumrunner s-off for Verizon HTC One.

AT&T HTC One is being updated to Android 4.3 with an OTA update, the new build number is 3.17.502.3. It’s a hefty 565.7 MB file which needs to be downloaded. In case you haven’t received the Android 4.3 OTA check using AT&T software update.

You can also download the RUU for 3.17.502.3 from here and here.

In case you are s-off and do not want to risk losing s-off you can follow the instructions here to update to Android 4.3.

In case you are one of those who upgraded your T-Mobile HTC One to RUU 1.27.531.11 and lost the ability to S-off your HTC One, you need not worry. Rootzwiki developer xboarder56 has posted a working method wherein you can downgrade yor T-Mobile HTC One to RUU 1.27.531.8 from 1.27.531.11 and then get S-Off.

When HTC launched the HTC One flagship on AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States they also offered up a Developer Edition. Since GSM HTC One hardware is mostly the same, converting your phone from one rom to another can work if done correctly.

The advantage to converting your HTC One over to a Developer Edition is having a carrier bloat free device with official ROM updates directly from HTC instead of waiting for the carrier to update. Even more reason for T-Mobile HTC One owners is that you can finally have a HTC One Developer Edition with AWS radios.
