How to root your Acer Iconia 500

 So you got this shiny new Acer Iconia 500 and you want to get under the hood and do some playing huh?  Want it to move a little quicker, change the look, get apps that need superuser and maybe get some Ice Cream Sandwich (fingers crossed)?  We have what you need to achieve all those fun things (thanks to the brilliant devs over at xda) here at Android fan Network.  Luckily us Acer 500 owners have good development support over at xda and Thor's roms (tegraowners.com) so there's lots of fun to be had.  If you have any questions about rooting any device, flashing roms, kernels, etc leave me a comment below and I'll do my best to get you up and going in the fun world of hacking Android devices. Now let's get our hands dirty shall we?

As the old root method does not work anymore I created this new tool.

How to root
1. Goto Settings->Applications and enable "Unkown sources"
2. Download the attached APK file
3. Copy the file to your Iconia
4. Install the APK & start the tool
5. Click "root"
6. Enjoy :-)

How to unroot
1. Start the tool & click "unroot"

NOTE
- By clicking root, you agree that you do this at your own risk. The tool will uninstall any previous installed superuser.apk.

Changelog

- Also remove any "su" folder from /system/bin and /system/xbin .

- Remove su from /system/bin and /system/xbin before rooting. This should fix the issues when someone installed the 3.1 OTA without unrooting the device before.
