The case goes on easy enough. Sides are formed in a transparent TPU while the back has a “frost” to it along with a printed Kay’s Case logo in the bottom right.

Your power and volume buttons are covered with this one but the TPU material is not so thick that you have to press twice or press hard to operate them. The cutout around the micro-USB is large enough you can use pretty much any cable you have on hand and all the cutouts are nice and centered so they will not get in the way of the charing port, speaker or microphone.

On the top end of the case, there is ample room around the headphone jack so there should be no issues there. The back is thick enough that you don’t need to worry about the camera lens getting scratched up but wireless charging works fine. Around the front bezel is a lip that will keep the glass off of a surface.

The KAYSCASE Slim Hard Shell Cover Case for the Nexus 5 is a hard shell case that provides minimal protection without adding any bulk to your Nexus 5.

The shell is made from a hard polycarbonate material. It snaps on pretty easily. I prefer to go in volume buttons first. There is a nice wide cutout for the power and volume buttons, so no issues there. The headphone jack cutout is notched pretty wide so there should be no issues using larger AUX cables or headphone plugs.

The shell was not slick like it would slide out of my hand, but the back and sides are both smooth as a baby’s butt. The camera sits in a recess so that big ol’ lens won’t make contact a flat surface. The front has a lip going up the left and right sides that hold the screen off a flat surface as well. Since the tops and bottom are both wide open, I would suggest not dropping it.

Both inside layer has ridges along the left and right edges that become guides for your fingers when holding it. This makes the ArmorBox a pretty comfortable case to hold and the outer shell has a knobby tire type texture on the back adding to the grip. This case is not going to slip out of your hands by accident. Last thing to mention, the ArmorBox also features a kickstand, something I truly miss from my Evo days.

All in all, the KAYSCASE ArmorBox offers really solid protection for your Nexus 5 and is certainly worth a look. You can find the ArmorBox for $15 in their Amazon store in a black, blue, green, pink or red TPU layer with black outer shell.

 Android 4.4.1 coming soon to fix Nexus 5′s camera

It looks Google is set to release a new version of KitKat, Android 4.4.1, to fix the camera bugs with Nexus 5. In an interview to The Verge, Dave Burke, Google’s Director of Engineering for Android, outlined the bugs and issues in the camera software along with performance and improvements to be seen in this update. He is confident that with Android 4.4.1, the camera will not be a deal breaker for the Nexus 5 even though it does not feature the best smartphone camera.

Below are changes, improvements, and features Android 4.4.1 brings to the Nexus 5 camera.

• Increased speed across the camera application
• Improvements in Auto focus , exposure and white balance (by speeding up frame rate and increasing how quickly the camera can read its surroundings and fire a picture)
• Fix to slow shooting speeds in good lighting conditions (caused because of OIS to get better low light images)
• New progress indicator in HDR+ mode
• More contrast and vibrant colored photos

Dave Burke added that, with just five weeks of work, the Nexus 5 camera has been improved a lot but that there is still more work to be done to improve both the camera performance and software. Get ready test the camera on your Nexus 5 as this update is expected to roll out in coming few days.

I’m going to keep this written review short because the video covers everything there is to cover in the 10 minute review (sorry CFB…  Went a little too long there) of the Spigen Slim Armor case (smooth black) for the Nexus 5.

In a nut shell the Spigen Slim Armor case for the Nexus 5 is for those of you looking for a case that is going to offer maximum protection against drops, bangs, dings and offer a peace of mind your Nexus 5 is safe. It’s a dual layer case with the inner shell being a thick black TPU material on the top, bottom and corners. The outside poly carbonate shell is also black and there to make it look pretty and also offer that second layer of protection for big drops and falls. It’s a tight fit on the Nexus 5 so there are now worries of it wiggling around and possibly falling out of the case. If you have a desk job or something along those lines the Spigen Slim Armor case may be a little over kill and maybe the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case for the Nexus 5 is more along your lines. Now if you have a physical labor job like working in a kitchen, outdoors, with heavy machinery and jobs that may be rough on your phone the Spigen Slim Armor case is the way to go. It’s not going to break the bank should you buy this case at $15-$20 either.
