So, finally a lot of questions have been answered, Android 5.0 won’t be Key Lime Pie. It will be Android 4.4 Kit Kat!

    KitKat..lol

Look at it this way.. Most countries don’t know what Key Lime Pie is, but nearly all countries know what a Kit Kat is. I mean a giant market for Kit Kats is Japan/China, and Android could be a massive game changer over there with this name. Just Google “Japan, Kit Kat” and you’ll see the myriad of flavors they have over there.

Yes.. I myself did not know about Key Lime Pie until I googled it.. but KitKat is famous here in India too

Well, there you have it! It makes perfect sense then for them to team up with an internationally well known company and desert/candy bar.

            I agree :-)

This is great news. I wasn’t a fan of the name Key Lime Pie.

  • Frank LaTorre

Nice, I hope this release is truly as sweet as the candy!!

They probably opted for KitKat over Key Lime Pie due to construction of a Key Lime Pie statue.

The name choice is definitely interesting. The main thing I’ve been throwing out everywhere is that this will get Android’s OS updates out to the general public. My best friend who loves technology has always thought Android sucked, then he saw an S4, and fell in love. The point of that story is he still believed Android was completely mediocre thanks to trying out Android 2.2/2.3 a while ago.

When KK and Google team up, this could prove to be a massive advertising campaign getting more Android OS illiterate consumers to see what all the fuss is about. They might know what 4.4 is. I mean think about when you talk to family members or friends that have iPhones. They usually (I use that loosely) know that they are on iOS 5/6/7. Most consumers (unless technologically inclined) don’t know what version their Android phone is on so this could be a great way of getting that out there and stomping all their old preconceived notions of what Android was and can finally see how awesome Android is.
