With the new line up of Nexus tablets right around the corner, Verizon has finally gotten their head out of their asses with the Nexus 7 2013 FHD LTE. I’m not a fan of inking a 2-year contract with any carrier for a tablet, but if you’re a Verizon customer and itching to get your hands on a LTE Nexus 7 FHD, they’re offering that very tablet when you sign a 2 year contract for $49. Before you ink that 2-year deal for last year’s Nexus 7, you may want to wait a few more months to see what’s doing with the new Nexus tablets that may be announced late Spring/Summer.

I’ve recently upgraded my WiFi Nexus 7 FHD to the LTE model and couldn’t be happier, but again, with the new Nexus tablets just around the corner, I don’t suggest inking a 2 year contract, even if it’s still a killer tablet. Hold on to your horses and see what Google has up their sleeves for 2014 – hopefully even a LTE Nexus 8…

The Nexus 7 FHD LTE received a minor bump to Android 4.4.2 Release 2, which is a compatibility update with changes requested by Verizon for certification on their network. If you are using your Nexus 7 FHD LTE on a GSM carrier, you will not likely be prompted to update, but it does show right away after inserting a Verizon SIM and forces you to download over WiFi.

You can try checking your settings for a system update, or sideload the small (37Mb) KVT49L OTA manually using the direct download link and instructions below.

Download and save to your adb folder

Turn your Nexus 7 FHD LTE off, and reboot into bootloader mode by holding Power and Volume Down

Select Recovery using the Volume Up, and press power to confirm

At the red triangle, press Power and Volume Up, and you should see the recovery menu

Use the volume keys again to scroll through the menu to highlight Apply update from adb and press Power to confirm

On your computer, open a terminal window and enter the command:

adb sideload 899e0334e124dbb42ce66cec2628def38342ddfb.signed-razorg-KVT49L-from-KOT49H.899e0334.zip

Let your Nexus 7 FHD LTE do its thing, reboot, and you are all set to “officially” use your Verizon data plan!

Direct Download: Google

The full KVT49L factory image to restore your Nexus 7 FHD LTE is also available here.

This is quite the nifty little tablet and possibly the most popular choice for parents. Quick specs are:

Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS

Next up is the Nexus 7- 2013 model

If it’s stock Google you want with no added frills like the Samsung, then the Nexus 7 would be your best bet.

A very tried and true tablet, this should probably be at the top of everyone’s list if you look for nothing more than a straight tablet.

Android 4.4

7.02″ 1920×1200 HD display (323 ppi)

Next one is a bit of a shocker, mainly because not any of you may have heard of, is the Blu Life View Tab.

We did a write on this tablet, and from what we’ve read so far, it seems to be a nice tablet for its’ price point. There are, I’m sure, many more tablets out there that are worth looking into. This is my personal top list and obviously there will be those that don’t agree with me.

So you have a 2013 Nexus 7 and little ones that are constantly asking “Mom and Dad, can I use your Nexus 7?” Maybe they have their very own Nexus 7, and you cringe every time they drop it or slide it across the floor, knowing it’s only a matter of time before that beauty of an Android tablet has a broken screen, dents, or cracks. Poetic has a fantastic case for us neurotic parents that let our kids play with our other pride and joy, our Nexus 7.

The Poetic Kid’s Series Case for the Nexus 7 FHD 2nd Generation is a God-send for us parents that slip our little ones our Nexus 7 (under protest). With this case applied your attention can go from 100% watching your kid play with your Nexus 7 to important things, like the Giants game (not so much this year).

The Poetic Kid’s Series Case is made with soft light weight EVA foam material offering drop, shock and slip protection. It has a soft curved design with a fun two-tone colorway, collapsible handles for landscape viewing and viewing in portrait mode, soft handles on the side for easy holding in landscape mode for gaming or movies, and access to all of the ports for the Nexus 7. Getting the tablet in and out of the Kid’s Series Case is an absolute breeze, but a snug enough fit with no worries of it slipping out. Access to the screen is not hindered in the slightest by this big bulky case, swiping the screen, typing, and accessing anything on the tablet screen is done with ease.

I let my 3 year old and 5 year old take my Nexus 7 for a spin with this case, and there was no stroke or heart attack on my end, and I still have my finger nails intact. In fact they were pretty darn rough on it! They played tug of war with the two handles on the sides (because kids are so good at sharing…), it was a Frisbee, fell off the couch and out of their hands, and just took some all around tough tumbles (the things I do for AFN). After an hour of them using and abusing the Nexus 7 in the Poetic Kid’s Series Case, I took the Nexus 7 out of the case to give it a good inspection, and, lo and behold, there wasn’t a single scratch, mark, or ding on my Precious.

This case is the real deal folks! If you have little ones, a Nexus 7 FHD, and want non-stressful playtime with your Nexus 7, the Poetic Kid’s Series Case is pure win.

There are 4 different color options to chose from at Poetics website. The Poetic Kid’s Series Case for the Nexus 7 FHD sells for $29.95 and is worth every cent in my opinion.

Did you step in to a pile of stuff with your Nexus 7 and just want everything back like it was before you hit flash zip? Luckily for us, this is a Nexus device and Google makes it easy for us hackers that try to push that Nexus 7 to the limits get it back to square one. This is also for you if you’re getting your Nexus 7 ready to sell or trade at www.celltraderoneline.com and just looking for a quick way to get your Nexus 7 back to factory settings. Either way, ATGAdmin over at XDA, has made a tool that can take that paperweight of yours back to a fully functional, “out of the box” Nexus 7.

ATGAdmin has some pretty simple directions over at XDA for this tool. To work its magic, your Nexus 7 is going to need an unlocked bootloader (I imagine it is if you’re reading this), drivers installed, USB debugging enabled, the tool downloaded and extracted, and your device plugged in to your PC in fastboot mode. If you’re able to achieve the above you’re on your way to an “out of the box” Nexus 7. He also has a “DeadNexus7.bat” file for those of us that may have really stepped in it and the Nexus 7 won’t boot at all. There are options for both the WiFi and LTE Nexus 7′s so be sure to choose the correct model.

This really is part of the beauty of owning a Nexus device. Google and developer’s like ATGAdmin have made it pretty fool-proof for some of us hackers that may get a little too carried away or for some of us that need a quick out of the box Nexus 7.

If you have gotten yourself in a bind with your Nexus 7, take a chill pill and hop on over to XDA and check out ATGAdmin’s thread. Follow his directions to a “T” and it will be smooth sailing on your way to a unbricked Nexus 7.
