Well that was pretty quick. On January 31st AT&T quietly ended their promotion to lure T-Mobile customers away. They were offering up to $450 if you left T-Mobile and came over to AT&T.

Even though the credit might not have been the best deal, it was nice to see AT&T fight back, and try to gain customers. While AT&T is not hurting at the moment, T-Mobile is having great success lately growing their customer base. And as a consumer, when companies are actively fighting for you, the consumer always wins.

Were you able to cash in on this deal before it expired? Let us know if that was enough to make you switch or if AT&T is going to have to try something different to give up your unlimited data.

HTC’s Executive Director, Product Management, Mohammed Versi, called the curtain on the final update for the AT&T HTC One X. The firmware package passed carrier certification at AT&T and is scheduled to roll out to customers January 29. This update brings to the stage Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0, but it ends official support for what I personally thought was the device of the year for 2012.

Good news is there is still plenty of active development so don’t cry for the “Evita”. It is supported by just about every ROM team out there, even up to Android 4.4. That may be the end of official firmware support, but the HTC One X is going to be around for a while so don’t expect that’s all folks!

The silver lining in this rain cloud is that Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0 should finally roll out to the AT&T HTC One X+, and the One X is soon to follow. HTC’s Mohammed Versi, Executive Director, Product Management, announced the HTC One X+ firmware passed AT&T’s technical acceptance and is scheduled for release this week.

Yesterday at CES 2014, AT&T announced that it will carry the ASUS PadFone X exclusively in the US.

ASUS PadFone X, a smartphone and tablet combo, is a smartphone with 5 inch 1080p display running Android 4.4 JellyBean that transforms into a tablet when docked into back of a tablet dock. The tablet dock has its own battery and 9 inch 1080p display.

PadFone X comes with brushed metal frame and features dual front speakers and soft touch back cover. It also features a NFC sensor for mobile payments and also suports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD Voice.

Availability, detailed specifications, and pricing of PadFone X are yet to be revealed. ASUS PadFone X is a good addition to AT&T’s product line-up and we hope it will be launched soon.

AT&T announced a new promotion to lure T-Mobile customers into changing wireless providers. For a limited time, AT&T will give T-Mobile customers up to $450 to “upgrade their mobile lifestyle.” To qualify, you must trade in a smartphone for up to $250 and then either purchase a new device on the Next plan, purchase an AT&T device at full retail, or simply activate your own device on a new line of service for the other $200 credit. This only applies to Mobile Share Plans, not 2 year contracts. The fine print also states that you must maintain an account in good standing for 90 days to receive the credit.

Does this make you want to jump ship and head over to AT&T? I think I will be fine staying with T-Mobile, but if you feel differently then please let us know in the comments.

AT&T announced new “Mobile Share Value Plans” that will be available starting December 8th. New customers and existing residential and business customers that are not tied to a two-year contract will be eligible to switch.

These new plans are designed to save off-contract customers money each month by offering shared data tiers similar to how the existing on-contract shared data plans work. The key difference is the price point; the line access charge starts at $25 per month for unlimited talk and text with the shared data allowances starting at $20 for 300 MB up to $150 for 20 GB. The full chart can be found here.

AT&T’s on-contract shared data plans (found here) have varying rates for each phone depending on type of phone and how big of a data bundle you purchased. A quick comparison of 3 smartphones sharing 10 GB of data shows that you can potentially save $35 each month with the new plan ($210 vs. $175/monthly.)

Any changes to carrier plans rewarding off-contract customers are good changes. Head to the link below and see if this benefits you if you are off contract. Do announcements like this make you want more likely to ditch contracts and purchase phones at full price? Chime in and give us your opinion.

First Verizon, then a quick AT&T tease, and then T-Mobile. All in a three day span. Then on the fourth day, Motorola decided it was officially AT&T’s turn to come to the big boy’s table and enjoy some Kit Kat goodness.

There is not much we have not covered already, the release notes are the same as the other updates. But because I care, here they are again:

-Android 4.4, KitKat, is the latest release of the Android platform. KitKat includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development.

-Improved the phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search your corporate directory easily.

-Enhanced the “touch to focus” option with a new circular, on screen control that can be dragged by your finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo’s focus and exposure.

-Added new photo editing options to the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.

-Incorporated a new version of Google Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging. Hangouts can be set as the default SMS app under Settings > Wireless > Default SMS app.

-Added a new “Find my phone” command to Touchless Control. Just say “OK, Google Now-find my phone” and your Moto X will ring loudly to let you know where it’s hiding when you’ve misplaced it nearby.

-Enhanced support for NFC Host Card Emulation (HCE), to improve experiences such as contactless payments, loyalty plans, transit passes, card access and more.-Added support for Square credit card reader
