Reduce Your Data Usage up to 50% Using Opera Max Beta

Opera has finally promoted the Opera Max app and service to open beta status. The app has been in private beta testing since December, limited to daring users in the US only. But now, Opera hopes to broaden their reach and tester base to Europe too.

Opera has been using a feature called Turbo on their browsers for years, which reduces the data usage and improves browsing speed too. This is done by re-routing traffic through Opera’s servers and providing users with compressed versions of the webpages. It is very effective for unencrypted pages, but not so much for encrypted traffic.

The new Opera Max app and service brings this functionality to the entire Android system. It re-routes the data traffic of the whole device through  Opera servers, hoping to improve speed and data usage in the process. Obviously this wouldn’t work with encrypted apps such as Facebook. The app is free now, but we aren’t sure if this will continue after the app is released publicly. The bigger question is whether you’d trust all your data to Opera, not that we can give you a reason not to.

To speed up all your data traffic and save precious data, you could install the public beta now from the Google Play Store. This registers you as a beta user and be amongst the first to experience this service.
