Android 4.3 ports are starting to come in, slowly but surely. An Android 4.3 rom, built from source is now available for the first generation KindleFire. Below are the basic requirements for you to try Android 4.3 on your first generation Kindle Fire:-

Should be running FireFireFire Bootloader 1.4a

Should have a custom recovery like TWRP installed

You can use this thread to install the FireFireFire bootloader and install a custom recovery. Once done all you need to do is download the Android 4.3 rom and gapps from here, place the zip files in your Kindle Fire’s internal memory and flash them in recovery (rom followed by gapps). Make sure to do a factory reset from recovery before flashing the zip files and also take a backup.

In case you need to root Android 4.3 instructions are available here.

Well in case you have not rooted yet and want to root your Nexus device running Android 4.3 follow the instructions below.

Pre-requiste – You need to have a custom recovery installed, TWRP is preferred for this root method as issues have been reported with CWM.

Download SuperSU by Chainfire

Place the zip in your Nexus device’s internal memory

Reboot into recovery and flash the file and you should have root

If you insist on using CWM then you need to uncheck the option to “disable stock recovery flash” in case it shows up.

The last few days have been full of news of bootloader unlocks, well today would be no different, the bootloader on the Verizon Note 10.1 has been jailbroken, and you wonder what do we mean by jailbreaking an Android device (more details on that further down the article). Verizon is known for locking bootloaders on it’s devices but it’s always been a cat and mouse game with Android developers.

Thanks to xda developers recognized elite developer Adam Outler the Note 10.1 on Verizon is now a free bird. Please note the process will also install TWRP recovery on your Verzion Note 10.1. Now, coming back to using the term jailbreak, well I’ll have to quote Adam for an answer to that:-

Hey, you can’t jailbreak an Android.. yeah, i know, but “Jailbreak” is a protected act under the USA DMCA Exemption of 2012 and “Unlocking” is illegal without carrier permission. There will be no misunderstandings here.

Here is a video tutorial by Adam himself:-
If you have installed a custom recovery on a Samsung device before, I guess you know the drill, just flash PDA from Odin, if you haven’t done this before, well there is always a first time for everything.

The custom recoveries (ClockworkMod & TWRP) are a work in progress and as per users graphics are off on ClockworkMod, please try at your own risk and neither we nor the developers are responsible for any bricked devices.

How to:-

1) Download the files from here. Another build of ClockworkMod can be found here.
2) Extract Odin3-3.04.zip and copy the tar that you downloaded into the folder
3) Run Odin as an administrator
4) Power your device off
5) Press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode
6) Connect your phone to your computer
7) Wait for drivers to finish installing if they need to be
8) You should see Odin find your device by marking a blue square in the ID COM box
9) Click on PDA and choose the recovery tar you downloaded
10) Click start

Once the file is flashed you should have the recovery you selected installed.

How to Enter recovery:-

1) Power down your device
2) Hold volume up and power to enter recovery
3) Navigate recovery by using the volume keys and power to select

How to Root:-

Download SuperSU and flash from Recovery.

Installation instructions are pretty simple:-

Unlock your bootloader at htcdev

Download Clockwordmod

Make sure fastboot is unchecked in power options and turn phone completely off

Boot into HBoot mode and then Fastboot

From fastboot use the command “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” , this is considering that the name of the recovery file downloaded is recovery.img, in case it is something else just change the file name in the command, also make sure that the recovery file is in the same folder as the fastboot executable

Once you have recovery installed you can also root it by flashing any of these files in recovery:-

SuperUser
