OnePlus Partnering with CyanogenMod, OnePlus One to Launch in First Half of 2014

OnePlus, founded by former OPPO employees including former Oppo VP +Pete Lau, confirmed that they are partnering with CyanogenMod and their first phone, the OnePlus One, will be launched in first half of 2014.

This first phone in the partnership will ship with a specially designed version of CyanogenMod having new exciting elements and features. It looks that CyanogenMod team are already working on developing a custom version of CyanogenMod with special tweaks for the project.

The post at the OnePlus forums says, “The CyanogenMod team will work in tandem with OnePlus team to combine best hardware and best software and introduce spectacular smartphone.”

Here is what +Pete Lau (CEO OnePlus) and +SteveKondik (CTO Cyanogen Inc.) say on this collaboration.

Pete Lau

“What’s coming is one of the most popular mobile operating systems specifically developed for the best hardware, with a unique twist. The smartphone industry is ripe for disruption, and 2014 should prove to be a huge year for the future of the market.”

Steve Kondik

“Upon hearing Pete’s vision for OnePlus, it was clear we had found the right partner. By combining our software expertise with Pete’s background in hardware and design, we’ll develop a phone that will exceed both of our expectations.”

The next round of CyanogenMod 11.0 “M” builds cranked out overnight and are available to download now. CyanogenMod “M” releases are a monthly snapshot of the code base and are considered experimental. The team started releasing these snapshots to give users something a bit more stable and higher quality than unofficial or nightly builds but released more frequently than release candidates and stable builds to keep us flashaholics happy.

CyanogenMod for the Oppo N1

As promised earlier, Oppo has released CyanogenMod firmware for the Oppo N1 devices bundled with Oppo’s ColorOS. Oppo says this CyanogenMod firmware was customized to support N1′s innovative hardware and software features like rotating camera, O-Touch panel, and O-Click Bluetooth remote control. Unique features from ColorOS like double tap to wake and screen-off gestures were also included.

Check this post at Oppoforums for firmware download links and detailed instructions on how to flash CyanogenMod firmware. These instructions are self explanatory. You just need to download and copy the firmware to your device, Launch system update which takes you to recovery, wipe data, choose, install the firmware you have copied earlier, and reboot the device.

If you prefer the look and feel of COlorOS, you can revert it to by downloading and flashing the ColorOS firmware using the same instructions you followed for flashing CyanogenMod.

Yesterday we heard news on ROM Manager taken down from Google Play Store due to violation of Google Play Store’s developer program policies, but now it’s back on Play Store.

Koushik Dutta, developer of the app has posted on Google Plus that he managed to get it reinstated.

On a happier note, I managed to get it reinstated after emailing a dozen different people. Thanks to +Ellie Powers for escalating this within Google.

The app was taken down as it had upgrade option through PayPal, which violates Google Play Store’s billing policy. The policy states any app on Google Play Store must only use Play Store billing service as method of payment for any in-app purchases. It looks the drama is over and app is back available now (link below) as the PayPal upgrade option seems to be removed.

CyanogenMod has posted a video on their YouTube channel showing us a little behind the scenes work, play, and some Oppo N1 CyanogenMod Edition. By the video it’s looking like the Oppo N1 is running CM 10.2 that us CyanogenMod fans have all come to know and love. I personally have no doubt this will be bumped up to CM 11 in no time at all. If it does take some time to get CM 11, I think we all know what to do.

The Oppo N1 is a fascinating device in every imaginable way possible. Between the camera, screen size, the option to run CyanogenMod as your daily ROM, and most of all, what is to become of CyanogenMod Inc. The Oppo N1 CyanogenMod Edition will go on sale December 24th. The 16G Oppo N1 is going for $599 and the 32G model is going for $649. I can assure you one of us here will get our paws on this device, and when we do, you’ll be the first we’ll share our thoughts on it with.

Let us know in the comments what you think of the Oppo N1 and CyanogenMod Inc.

Old faithful ROM manager, one of my favorite tools when I was new to flashing zips to my Evo 4G, gets the boot from the Google Play Store. Koushik Dutta was told by Google to remove any PayPal links connected to his app supplied on Google Play. He complied with the app Helium, but according to Koushik, Google booted ROM Manager within the time limit they gave him to fix the PayPal issues with all of his apps. Hopefully Koushik gets this straightened out and we have ROM Manager back in our lives (even though I haven’t used it in years)

Is Koushik and CyanogenMod being picked on by Google? I don’t think so, but I’m sure the folks over at CyanogenMod Inc are thinking they have a target on their back.

Are they being picked on or just not following the rules? Let us know in the comments.

The CyanogenMod team has released CM 11.0 M1 for all actively AOSP supported Nexus devices which include the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, all variants of the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. Instead of releasing CM11 nightlies, CyanogenMod decided to release these M1 builds citing the hardware code for current Nexus devices comes from Google’s AOSP source and should have minimal device specific issues.

Hit the links below to take you to the device specific download page at CyanogenMod.org. The CyanogenMod team recommends to double-check your download and to use ClockworkMod recovery instead of TWRP.
