Starting with the One line of 2012, HTC has been pretty much on top of updating their devices. Combined with their recent transparency about the update process, it takes away a lot of the frustration and uncertainty HTC owners of the past experienced. This also isn’t the first time we’ve seen Jason Mackenzie respond about specific devices being updated, and it is great to see a company executive responding to customers – even if not bearing the best of news. As a HTC owner myself, I like the direction HTC is going regarding updates, and I hope they continue with it.

Verizon HTC One Android 4.3 OTA Released

The HTC One Android 4.3 update made its way through Verizon’s approval process, and Verizon HTC One owners are starting to receive the notification that they can update today (myself included).

The update brings your HTC One up to build 2.10.605.1 and includes a new radio baseband 1.12.41.1112_2. Although the Android version was changed to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the new firmware still includes HTC’s Sense 5.0. A full changelog is available at Verizon’s support website. The short version is the update contains some bugfixes and new Verizon bloat.

Any developers that want to pick apart the OTA package, you can grab it here or from XDA member carm01 in his thread here. Unrooted HTC One owners will need to wait for the OTA to push by Verizon, and remember that accepting the OTA may break the current S-OFF method for the HTC One.

Motorola just announced the Moto G, and this is very interesting. They tried to prove that specs are not everything with the Moto X; that a positive user experience can be had without cramming all of the latest hardware into the phone. Now they look to add to that, but this time at a much lower price point and with a launch that is not US only. The Moto G will be SIM unlocked, unlockable bootloader, and all for $179/$199 for the 8/16GB models. With this announcement, Motorola stressed that you do not need to spend $600 for an enjoyable mobile experience. Having used the Moto X, I think they are very much headed in the right direction, my experience is way more important than what processor the phone has.

-4.5-inch HD display

-the newest Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 processor featuring a quad-core CPU

-all-day battery life

-Android 4.3 Jellybean, with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat at the beginning of 2014

-No skins to clutter or slow the experience

-Stylish design with a comfortable curved back and 19 customization options, including interchangeable Motorola Shells and Flip Shells in seven colors as well as Grip Shells in five colors.

Straight from Motorola:

“Moto G goes on sale this week in Brazil and parts of Europe and will be available within the next few weeks throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia. It will be available in the US, India, the Middle East and more of Asia in early January. Moto G will be in more than 30 countries with 60 partners by 2014.”

Android 4.3 update coming soon to Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Last week we heard news on Android 4.3 JellyBean update rolling out to international variants of Samsung Galaxy S3 and it looks that Galaxy Note 2 will also receive this update soon.

Samsung customer service centers usually get the access to device updates prior to the rollout to customers. A guy from India got Android 4.3 installed on his Galaxy Note 2 ( international variant GT-N7100 ) from his local Samsung service center.

Build number of this Android 4.2 firmware is N7100XXUEMJ9 and build date is October 31st. There is no change log yet but you could expect support for Galaxy Gear, Trim, ANT+ along with OS update to Android 4.3. This update may also include updates to Samsung keyboard, new camera modes, new S-voice, new settings UI etc.

Galaxy Note 2 ( International variant ) users can expect this update soon and hopefully this update also lands soon on carrier variants of Note 2.
