Hangouts Version 2.0 Rolling Out

For those of you without a Nexus 5 in your hand, one of the updates you have been waiting for is rolling out now. Hangouts version 2.0 is rolling out now to and device on Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and higher. This update brings SMS and MMS integration into the Hangouts app, allowing a much cleaner and simpler approach to messaging on an Android device. While we are still waiting on Google Voice integration(which we could be waiting on for a few more months), this does bring animated GIF and location sharing support. Hangouts is working flawlessly on my Nexus 5, but I am having a few issues getting SMS and MMS to integrate on my Note 3. Let us know in the comments how your upgrade is going, smooth as the Nexus or some bumps on your pre-Kit Kat device.

Update: Updated the app and you are still not seeing full SMS/MMS integration? Don’t worry, you are not alone. It appears to be rolling out in phases. Go into Hangouts, settings, About Hangouts, and then look at your build number. My Note 3 is giving me problems, but the build number in the app does not match what the Play Store shows, even though I have updated through the Play Store to version 2.0.

Hey Gavin I downloaded a copy from android police for the leak as well as the kit-kat leaked keyboard. It is working for SMS/MMS but I saw that the play store is showing 2.0. Uninstall the updates, then update via the store and nada. Showing 1.2.018(849105-30). I was really digging the SMS seemed to work good on my S3. Only issue I did have, seen on the leaked vs is that the vid chats hang at times causing you to have to force a reload. Cant wait till Im seeing the official actually load to the device from the Play Store.

Hey Matt, thanks for responding! Same exact issue on my Note 3. If I run the leaked APK I crash whenever I send a pic. It is all over G+ with others having the exact same issue. Some said after an hour or so the app prompts them for the update.

I did find the 2.0.122 supposed to be the official on android Police as well. But I really would prefer it from Play store. New Keyboard came through though.

I am the same way about leaked APKs, they intrigue me but I do not always jump. I did load the leaked Kit Kat launcher on my Note 3. Was stable except for when using Google Voice search. It looked and ran great on the Note. Unfortunately Google might not release it for a while on the Play Store.
