Groupon is having an online only sale of the LG Optimus G E970, which is the SIM unlocked model, for just $179. The LG Optimus G is the precursor of the Nexus 4 but brings to the table both LTE and an expandable microSD slot.

The LG Optimus G is a pretty sweet handset and is a fantastic deal for $179 considering the phone works on pretty much any GSM carrier. For you T-Mobile users, this looks to be an unlocked AT&T device, but it supports LTE Band 4 and HSPA+ 1900Mhz in refarmed areas.

Groupon’s deal is a limited quantity and time offer that ends on January 30 at 12:00AM CST. Hit the link to Groupon below, and check it out for yourself.

LG Electronics officially confirmed the existence of LG G Pro 2, successor of the LG Optimus G Pro. LG announced that it will be launching G Pro 2 this February, likely at Mobile World Congress 2014.

LG drops the Optimus handle from the name of the device, advertising it as a continuation of its ‘G Series’ of smartphones (being the G, G Pro and G2). LG seems to be optimistic on G Pro 2, mentioning the sales Optimus G Pro exceeded 1 million units just in four months of launch in their domestic market citing a vivid Full-HD display and creative user experience of Optimus G Pro as the highly valued factors.

We may need to wait until February for more details on LG G Pro 2 as there is no official word yet from LG on hardware specifications and software features to be included with it.

I’m not to sure how I feel about this, but here we go. BBM will be preloaded on future LG devices, starting with the LG G Pro Lite. BBM will continue to be a free app on Google Play, but if you’re across the pond and looking to get the 5.5 inch LG G Pro Lite you’ve got no choice in having BBM (unless you’re a hacker).

I’m personally a big fan of the direction Google is going with Hangouts and having BBM preloaded on any device kind of defeats the purpose of Hangouts or is just straight up over kill with messaging options. Other OEMs are also looking into adding BBM to their devices, and I sincerely hope they reconsider this decision.

Press Release:

The G Pro Lite Will Be the First LG Device to Offer BBM Out-of-the-box

WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – Dec. 18, 2013) – BBM(TM) will soon come preinstalled on the LG G Pro Lite from LG Electronics Inc. in markets around the world. BlackBerry(R) (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB) today announced a bundling agreement with LG Electronics involving both standard and virtual preloading (using the LG App Manager) and confirmed that BBM will also continue to be available as a free download from Android app stores, including Google Play(TM).

“BBM is widely used throughout the Middle East, Africa and Indonesia where smartphone users tend to engage heavily in social networking,” said Kevin Shin, Vice President of Marketing for Asia, the Middle East and CIS countries of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The LG G Pro Lite offers an optimized BBM experience with its large, high quality display and embedded Stylus Pen.”

“People across the globe are using BBM to connect with each other and the enthusiasm has been phenomenal,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President for BBM at BlackBerry. “We’re extremely pleased that LG Electronics will help bring their customers a more seamless experience with BBM by preloading the app, starting with the G Pro Lite in key markets.”

BBM is a premier mobile communication service that gives customers privacy, control and immediacy as they chat with their contacts – either one-to-one, in multiple chats or as part of a BBM Group. BBM’s Delivered and Read statuses, as well as message-in-progress notices, keep people engaged and active in their conversations.

BBM lets users share files such as photos and voice notes, as well as update their profile and status with ease. Up to 30 people can connect as a BBM Group to chat and share photos, calendars and other files or documents.

Every BBM user has a unique PIN tied to their BlackBerry ID that helps maintains their privacy. Users never have to give out their phone number or email address to begin chatting with a new or casual contact.

The BBM experience will continue to evolve for Android and iPhone(R) users in the coming months, with updates that will include support for BBM Channels, a new service that connects BBM users to communities of shared interests in a very engaging and intimate manner, as well as support for BBM Voice calling and BBM Video calling.

Now so far the LG G Flex has only been released in South Korea and France via mobile carrier Orange, but a tweet from a well-known leaker, has revealed that the first flexible screen phone to hit the US shores, may in fact be from LG.

If true, LG could very well beat Samsung to the punch and capture early sales in the USA. Given LG hasn’t made the launch official, take the rumor with a grain of salt until further information is confirmed.
Got an opinion on this? Let us know below.

It’s a known thing that both Samsung and LG Mobile has been working on smartphones with curved display. Last week Samsung made Galaxy Round with 5.7 inch FULL HD Super flexible curved display

To counter Samsung, LG seems to be launching G Flex soon – a smartphone with 6 inch curved display a bit bigger screen than Samsung Galaxy Round. No other details are known other than the press renders in this post. However these leaked press renders suggest G Flex is thinner than Galaxy Round and it goes curved from top to bottom instead of left to right curved display on Galaxy Round.
