Translucent status and navigation bar in lock screen for Nexus 4

One of the good aesthetic changes Android 4.4 Kit Kat brought is translucent status and navigation bars. Unfortunately, just like Google Experience Launcher ( GEL ), these are exclusive to Nexus 5.

For the users still rocking the Nexus 4, Floydfire, a Senior Member at XDA, has decompiled, modded and recompiled the framework of Android 4.4 Kit Kat factory images so that you can have status and navigation bars translucent in home screen and lock screen. You will need to install the Google Experience Launcher (click here to download) also if you want translucent bars in home screen.

Download the appropriate recovery flashable zip files based on your Android 4.4 build number. You will need to have unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed on your device.

Please keep in mind these files only work with the Nexus 4. Download and flash below zip files if you get boot loops.

It seems HTC is doing a great job on pushing updates for HTC One as both the Google Play Edition of HTC One and the Developer/Unlocked Edition ( with Sense UI ) started receiving the KitKat update within one month of its launch. This roll-out is exclusive to devices in the US, and we hope it comes to devices in other markets soon.

Custom ROMs based on Android 4.4 for other variants of HTC One are now in the works. You can find screenshots here.

Update is about 863.52 MB in size and build number is 4.06.1540.2. Here is the change-log listed in update notification. It looks there is no ART ( Android run time ) in this build.

Google has posted on Android Google Plus page that starting today Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC one Google Play edition devices are getting Android 4.4 update.

Both HTC and Samsung has already posted Android 4.4 kernel sources complying with GPL.

Xposed Framework for Android 4.4 KitKat

Xposed framework is well known to all Android users who wish to customize their devices. Xposed framework lets you modify/customize your rooted Android device without having to modify any of the APKs ( no need to de-compile, do changes and recompile ) or flashing any files through recovery.

Xposed framework is now available for devices running Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s still in beta phase and has some bugs that will eventually go away in due course of time.This update brings Xposed installer to version 2.4 ( beta1). It also includes Significant performance improvements of the framework and a viewer for the debug.log in the installer.

Here is the download link for XposedInstaller supporting Android 4.4 KitKat. You can install this like any other normal apk, grant superuser permissions and reboot your device after installation. This just creates the framework needed for Xposed modules to run. You can install any Xposed modules like APM ( Advanced Power Menu ), Transparent Notification Bar, Colored Navigation Keys etc.

Though we don’t have any official word on what build of Android 4.4 does Google Edition HTC One get, @LlabTooFeR ( earlier known as Football ) famous for leaking firmwares of HTC devices and MAXIMUS ROMs has posted on twitter that it will get 4.4 update based on latest build KRT16S.

It’s good to have bug free builds for any device but we are not sure if this delays the Android 4.4 KitKat roll out for HTC One Google Edition.

Android 4.4 update rolling out to Nexus 4

It’s time to tap the update button on your Nexus 4 as Android 4.4 KitKat is now rolling out as an OTA update.

The update is about 238 MB in size and the build number is KRT16S, slightly newer than KRT16O. This suggests that Google has sorted out some bugs in KitKat and pushing a new build to Nexus 4.

Nexus 4 getting Android 4.4 KitKat update after Moto X on Verizon, a non Nexus device might be surprising, but it’s always a good thing to get a stable bug-free build.

Google has started selling both WiFi and LTE variants of Nexus 7 2013 in India through Play Store. 16 GB WiFi only variant is priced at INR 20,999 ( $337 ). 32 GB WiFi only variant is priced at INR 23,999 ( $385 ) where as LTE variant is available for INR 27,999 ( $449 )

If you order now, all the variants will leave warehouse by 26 November. Unlike the pricing in other countries, It looks Google has not priced them aggressively in India.

MiHome Launcher updated to 2.16.0, adds Android 4.4 KitKat support

Unofficial CM11 ROM for HTC Droid DNA

Want to experience Android 4.4 KitKat on your HTC Droid DNA? Then you should try the new unofficial CyanogenMod 11 ROM. Though its in early stages on development, All major functions like Data/Calls, Camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Speakers and LEDs are working.

Download the ROM, Optional Google Apps package, compatible recovery, GSM patch ( if you are using your device on GSM networks ) here at XDA-developers. If you are coming from dfferent ROM, bBelow are the instructions mentioned by developer for flashing this CM11 ROM.

• Download the zip(s).
• Install a compatible Recovery
• Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM (Optional)
• Wipe data & cache partitions of your device (required when coming from stock!).
• Flash CyanogenMod.
• Install the Google Apps add-on package.
