Android Fan Network’s Weekly App Picks – February 2

Here are Android Fan Network’s Weekly App Picks from the AFN staff for the week of February 2. These may be apps we can’t live without or apps we just discovered. Either way, we think they are worth sharing with you. If there is an app that you think we may enjoy, send us a tip so we can take a look.

NFL 2014 Live Wallpaper - Kevin

NFL-2014-Live-Wallpaper

Aside from being a live wallpaper, NFL 2014 Live Wallpaper brings in a wealth of information, from game scores to real time news and team Twitter feed, on the in-stadium animated ticker. This is a high quality and officially licensed app, not like a lot of the junky NFL wallpaper apps out there. NFL 2014 Live Wallpaper includes a complementary NFL theme with additional in-app purchases ranging from a $2.49 monthly season pass for access to all teams, a single team pack for $4.99, or Ultimate Pack for $8.99 which unlocks everything. The app is not just a live wallpaper: it also includes ringtones, clock widget, SMS and Gmail alerts, and a lot more content. Just in time for Super Bowl XLVIII, get NFL 2014 Live Wallpaper as a free download at Google Play and show your Seahawks or Broncos support.

Zombie Gunship – Gavin

While my phone is used to make my life easier, I also use it to waste time and entertain myself. I am not a hardcore gamer, but I do use games to fill five or ten minutes. Like I have said before, this means I like games that I can pick up, start playing, and then move on in five minutes. Enter Zombie Gunship. It has great graphics, allows me to play without in app purchases, has straight forward and simple controls, and utilizes Play Games to track my progress.

You are a gunner in an AC-130 circling the entrance to an underground bunker trying to protect the people who want to enter the bunker. The controls are simple, you select one of three guns, you aim the gun, then you fire. The plane just goes in a circle, so you can concentrate on shooting zombies. The game is visually pleasing as well. The screen is a simple black and white map that simulates night vision which allows you to easily see the difference between humans and zombies. Each zombie killed is worth coins, and you use these coins to upgrade your weapons. There are four upgrades to each gun that allow it to reload and shoot faster and have greater damage.

Stop wasting time, spend $0.99, and start shooting zombies.

Flappy Bird – Sean

Talk about simplistic, Flappy Bird from .GEARS Studio is about as simple and easy as it gets. You are a little bird that has to navigate through a maze of pipes, both hanging from the top of the screen and protruding from the bottom, as far as you can get.

The game is very simple in its design, a throwback to the days of 8-bit Super Mario. Controls are very easy, tap on the screen to make the bird fly up the screen. Stop tapping and the bird plummets towards the ground. It’s a constant flurry of guesswork as to how low or high you should take your bird to be lined up for the next opening between pipes.

Word to the wise, set aside some time to play this game for it is HIGHLY addictive, and I do suggest not playing while stressed out because it will only make you angrier for many failed attempts. I’ve been playing for a full day and have only been able to manage a high score of 8. You can check out Flappy Bird, which is a free download, from Google Play.
