AT&T Blocking Google Hangout Video Chat (Workaround Inside)

att-sucks

Now this is really starting to piss me off , and I mean really. AT&T is blocking Google Hangout Video Chat over it’s cellular network, WTF is wrong with them. This is not done peeps, it’s my phone, my data and my wish. The worst part, it works on the Hangout app on iOS. You would say it’s a bug from Google, well not at all because this is what AT&T had to say about it.

All AT&T Mobility customers can use any video chat app over cellular that is not pre-loaded on their device, but which they download from the Internet. For video chat apps that come pre-loaded on devices, we offer all OS and device makers the ability for those apps to work over cellular for our customers who are on Mobile Share, Tiered and soon Unlimited plan customers who have LTE devices. It’s up to each OS and device makers to enable their systems to allow pre-loaded video chat apps to work over cellular for our customers on those plans.

I am not sure what AT&T is trying to do here, locking bootloaders is understandable to some extent but this is not at all acceptable.

But Google+ user Mark has a fix for all you rooted peeps out there:-

1.Get SQLight editor from the market
2. Get Root Explorer from the market.
3. use Root Explorer to browse to /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db and click on it
4. then click on “main”
5. Scroll down to gtalk_vc_wifi_only – highlight and hold
6. Press “Edit Record” and change the “value” to false instead of true
7. Reboot

What amazes me is why would Google agree to such a thing because the app is coded by Google.
