I’m an owner of a Sony Xperia Z Ultra and absolutely love it. Feels good, looks good, runs like a thoroughbred and I look pretty dam dopey making phone calls on it. Even being a great phone I always thought it would also be great just as a small portable tablet. Well A Sony TS-0010 has been spotted at the FCC, listed as both a ”portable handset” and a ”portable UMPC mini-tablet”. It looks just like my big buddy and packing all of the same specs as the big boy that makes phone calls except no cellular radio.

Does it make sense to make an Xperia Z Ultra tablet and phone? I don’t know, but it’s a bad ass tablet when I’m not holding it up against my head.

There’s no doubt the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a big and beautiful phone. The biggest draw to the Z Ultra is the screen size weighing in at a whopping 6.44 inch corner to corner display. You can’t deny the build quality, the beautiful screen and uniqueness of the phone, but you may not be a fan of Sony’s UI. And that’s OK because we’re talking about a Sony device which is legendary in the development department. Chances are if you’re reading this article you’ve unlocked the boatloader, installed a custom recovery and have root access.

If this Sony UI isn’t your cup of tea and you want the latest version of Android on that big beautiful beast of yours, Cyanogenmod Nightlies have started rolling out for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. If your a fan of big screens and AOSP you can get the best of both worlds with CyanogenMod 10.2. The ROM for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is available under the “togari” codename. As usual it’s a very slim ROM at 217mb and buttery smooth for sure (or let’s hope). It’s always a good idea to create a backup when dealing with nightlies or any custom ROM for that matter.

Grab the CyanogenMod v10.2 nightly here and let us know how she rolls.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is know for many great features. It has incredible hardware specs, Sony’s great UI experience, the size of the screen, build quality and I could keep going on. Although one of the biggest knocks on the Xperia Z Ultra is the camera quality and I definetely concur in most cases. In low light situations the camera is an absolute train wreck with videos and pictures (no LED flash doesn’t help the Z Ultra’s case).

It does shine in well light areas though. It may not be the same type of shine that maybe the Nokia Lumia 1020 brings, but it holds it’s own when your outdoors or even indoors in a well light area.

Well I’ll let the video above speak for itself. Take a peak and you tell me.

A lot of case reviews we do for phones and cases we mention how slim it keeps your gadget or how much durable protection or its kinda ugly, but hey my phone is safe (I’m looking at you Otter box).

The Incipio Dualpro SHINE case is really quite the unique case, especially for such a big and thin phone like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. It’s a dual layer case that not only offers incredible protection for your massive Xperia Z Ultra, but it also makes the phone easier to hold for everyday use (portrait or landscape). For anyone that may be an owner of an Xperia Z Ultra you realized the second you opened the box how thin and BIG the phone is and how slippery it is due to the thinness and superior build around the edge of the device. The Incipio DualPro SHINE case honestly makes your Z Ultra feel like a phone/tablet that’s meant to be held in portrait for typing long messages (like this article), offering fantastic protection and keeping that phone as sexy as ever.

Take a look at the above YouTube video for more info about the case and where to buy it.

Coming from a Sony Xperia Z Ultra owner this is some pretty exciting news. Sony’s mobile gadgets are quite popular across the pond and can be sometimes hard to get your paws on a Sony phone if you live here in the States. That is until now.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra LTE, Sony Xperia Z 1 and the SmartWatch 2 are now available at the US Sony Online store. Unlocked phones don’t come cheap and these gadgets are absolutely no exception. The Sony Xperia Z1 is going for a whopping $649 ($50 down from it’s regular price), the Sony Xperia Z Ultra LTE is on sale for $679 and the SmartWatch 2 for $199.

I’m not going to make this a Sony Xperia Z Ultra article or review (Mike already did a hell of a job there), but if you’re looking for an absolutely mind blowing phone experience with a tablet size, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra at 6.4 inches is a slam dunk. If you’re anything like me and carry a phone and a tablet everywhere you go the Z Ultra IS the answer to consolidating the two. I’m a phone junkie just like the rest of you reading this, switch phones monthly and will continue to buy the newest phone available to take them for a spin. My Sony Xperia Z Ultra isn’t going anywhere until either the Z Ultra 2 comes out or a similar sized phone from another manufacturer. If you’re on the fence about the Z Ultra…. Get off it and buy one. It truly is an Ultra amazing experience.
