The KitKat updates for all kinds of devices from all kinds of carriers are starting to pop up left and right here folks! Big Red is getting in on the fun with one of their flagship devices, the Verizon HTC One. Verizon has been surprising me lately with their timely updates, and I applaud them for that. With the M8 in the foreseeable future, it wouldn’t have surprised me to see feet dragging on Android version updates for the M7 HTC One. However, the HTC One is such an epic device with more than capable specs for these updates, we can only hope they continue.

With this KitKat update, you can expect to see small visual changes to the way BlinkFeed works, as well as redesigns in the Settings, Gallery, and Music apps as well as the lockscreen. You’ll also notice some Verizon specific changes to low light photography and power management adjustments.

If you’re not seeing an update message up in your status bar, I suggest you hit the settings, and mash that system updates button. It’s on its way and will be on your Verizon HTC One any second now.

Let us know in the comments of any other changes you may have noticed that we haven’t mentioned above. Happy KitKat for you loyal Verizon HTC One owners. We all know it’s been a bumpy ride since jump street

Great news for Carbon ROM fans, like me. Today is the day we’ve been patiently waiting for! Carbon ROM is now rolling out their first set of official KitKat nightly builds for a ton of devices. The developers decided to begin on the one year anniversary of Carbon ROM’s creation.

The revamped website to organize all the goodies is now online and serving up fresh, KitKat flavored, Carbon just for you. There’s a new downloader app in the Google Play Store that will remove the team’s dependence on Goo.im and their remarkably unstable service as of late. There’s a Gerrit up now just for Carbon ROM as well. There’s a new logo for the team and a better nightly updater. Overall, the team says that it’s been a busier two month hiatus than it seems on the surface.

So if you’re ready to get your flash on, just open up the Carbon Downloader app, and grab the ROM.zip for your device. If it isn’t available right now, check back later, as some devices may still be building, or there may not be a maintainer for your device. Make sure you do a full wipe (factory reset) before flashing the new nightlies to avoid any potential issues. If you plan to restore data, make sure you aren’t restoring any system data. User apps and their respective data should be fine to restore. Flash the ROM and KitKat Gapps, and enjoy your awesome new ROM!

If you need help or have a question, Carbon ROM has an awesome G+ Community and an IRC Channel (#teamcarbon), both of which yours truly is a part of. Let me know what you think about Carbon ROM in the comments below!

Here’s some great news for European HTC One owners! HTC has begun rolling out the OTA update for Android 4.4.2 KitKat! You should begin seeing a software update notification as soon as today! The update itself is 308.24MB in size, which is rather light for one of HTC’s usual updates. That being said, you may want to tether yourself to a WiFi hotspot in order to download it.

HTC says the update packs with it a refreshed web browser, but also removes Adobe Flash support. It has improved the Cloud Printing ability and added support for more media functionality via Bluetooth. There are also quite a few security enhancements tagging along for the ride.

If you’re in the states, the US carriers should begin releasing their bloat-filled updates to American HTC Ones very soon. Currently, the carriers are in their testing phase of HTC’s KitKat update.

If you’re in a hurry to get in on the KitKat party right now, head on over to XDA Developers, where Recognized Contributor patensas has captured the OTA for you to sideload right away.

There is some good news for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon HTC One owners: Android 4.4 KitKat has been released to the carriers for their certification.

HTC One owners, final KitKat software has entered carrier labs for final testing and expect certification next week:http://t.co/DTzXMZxR8g

— HTC USA (@HTCUSA) January 23, 2014

If you have not been following the update process outlined by HTC, there is a nice infographic here that explains what is going on. In short, HTC wrapped up their part in adding the carrier requested <del>bloat</del> enhancements, and the new firmware is in the carriers’ hands for their own testing and approval of the final update.

We are all still going to be waiting a while longer, but some carriers have a slightly better track record when it comes to pushing updates through the certification process than others. Based on the color of my socks, I think Verizon is going to be first to get this out the door.

Okay, Magic 8-ball says T-Mobile first, then Sprint, AT&T, and, finally, Verizon. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments!

Today, Verizon’s Motorola Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini users are finally receiving the Android version 4.4, KitKat update announced mid-December. The update includes some camera tweaks, battery optimization, an updated version of Droid Zap, and a few bug fixes to note the most noticeable changes. Visually it looks pretty darn identical to 4.2 though. The icons in the status bar remained blue and not much looks different upon firing it up after the 4.4 update.

One thing that I did notice after the update was the letter “S” in the 4.4 Easter egg. Tapping 4.4 in the about phone settings on other devices that received the KitKat update get the letter “K”, which makes total sense for KitKat.
The Paranoid Android ROM development team teased their Google Plus followers with an image of the new Halo design for their upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat release. They mentioned that they had to redesign it to fit in better with the new, minimalistic design of KitKat. The result seems to be a translucent halo bubble that, according to the post, changes based on your application, desktop, and pictures. The post exclaims that “It is just the way it’s supposed to be.” Color me impressed. I can’t wait to see it in action!
