Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 has been rooted. The root method is as simple as it gets. The pre-requsite is that you need to have clockwork mod recovery already installed. Once you have clockworkmod recovery installed on your Note 3 all you need to do is download this file and flash it from clockworkmod recovery.

ClockworkMod recovery and root are now available for Rogers Moto X. Why not AT&T and Verizon Moto X, well because they have locked bootloaders. Yes an unlocked bootloader is a necessity to install clockworkmod recovery on Rogers Moto X and then root it.

Once bootloader unlocked you only have to do a fastboot flash recovery recovery-file.img to install recovery and then flash either Superuser by Koush or SuperSU by Chainfire from recovery and you will be rooted.

Making a full working port of a UI for devices from other OEMs is not straight forward as they use different framework and breaks several things when ported. However ThilinaC, Recognized themer at XDA  ported latest Sony Xperia launcher based on leaked Xperia Honami system dump and Xperia Z dump. This works on any device running Android 4.2.2-Jellybean with root access and supports multiple resolutions like  xhdpi, hdpi, & mdpi along with customized dimensions for app drawer ( like 7X5, 5X5 ) based on resolution.

The port includes features like smooth & new Xperia Honami launcher,  tablet support, folders in app drawer, re sizable widgets, support upto 7 home screens, Xperia Z/Honami wallpapers. What I hate most is when carriers (yes AT&T and Verizon am pointing at you) lock down bootloaders, but what I love most is when developers say “Up Yours” by hacking into them. AT&T LG Optimus G Pro is another example, the bootloader was locked by AT&T but enter djrbliss aka Dan and the bootloader on the AT&T LG Optimus G Pro has been hacked aka lokified.

Warning

Please note this is for AT&T LG Optimus G Pro, build E98010g only. Please do not try to flash any custom roms, kernels or anything from the recovery. This is just proof that the bootloader on the AT&T LG Optimus G pro has been hacked.

Here are the steps if you want to do them, please proceed at your own risk.

1. Download lokified cwm from here
2. untar the file and put it in internal memory of device
3. open adb session and check if your device is being detected by doing adb devices
4. get super user access by typing in su in the adb session
5. do a dd if=/sdcard/cwm-recovery.lok of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p28 to push lokified cwm to  your device
6. Do not do a reboot into recovery, instead turn off your device
7. Once device is turned off volume UP + home + power until you get into recovery

Please and I repeat please do not flash anything from this recovery, this is just a test recovery.

Sony’s new aluminum frame Xperia SP phone just got a port of ClockworkMod recovery. You do need to have an unlocked bootloader for installing ClockworkMod recovery on your Xperia SP. Here is how to check if the bootloader on your Xperia SP can be unlocked or not:-

1. In your device, open the dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
2. Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes then you can unlock the bootloader on your Xperia SP by following the instructions here.
   

Once you have unlocked the bootloader you need to go into fastboot mode and flash the kernel, the kernel contains ClockworkMod recovery for Xperia SP.

Custom recoveries i.e. ClockworkMod and TWRP are now available for the Verizon Galaxy S4. Just hours after djrbliss released Loki to bypass the bootloader on the Verizon & AT&T Galaxy S4 custom recoveries showed up on xda for the Verizon Galaxy S4.

TWRP is easier to install as compared to ClockworkMod, below are the instructions for TWRP:-

1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery

For installing the recovery you would need to have Odin installed on your windows machine, the installation instructions are pretty simple if you follow what’s written. Please note this is for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 only, please do not try to flash it on any other phone.

Once recovery is installed you can flash Chainfire’s Super SU and flash it from recovery to be rooted.

How to:-

1) Download the files from here. Another build of ClockworkMod can be found here.
2) Extract Odin3-3.04.zip and copy the tar that you downloaded into the folder
3) Run Odin as an administrator
4) Power your device off
5) Press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode
6) Connect your phone to your computer
7) Wait for drivers to finish installing if they need to be
8) You should see Odin find your device by marking a blue square in the ID COM box
9) Click on PDA and choose the recovery tar you downloaded
10) Click start

Once the file is flashed you should have the recovery you selected installed.

How to Enter recovery:-

1) Power down your device
2) Hold volume up and power to enter recovery
3) Navigate recovery by using the volume keys and power to select

How to Root:-

Download SuperSU and flash from Recovery.

Installation instructions are pretty simple:-

1. Unlock your bootloader at htcdev
2. Download Clockwordmod
3. Make sure fastboot is unchecked in power options and turn phone completely off
4. Boot into HBoot mode and then Fastboot
5. From fastboot use the command “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” , this is considering that the name of the recovery file downloaded is recovery.img, in case it is something else just change the file name in the command, also make sure that the recovery file is in the same folder as the fastboot executable

Once you have recovery installed you can also root it by flashing any of these files in recovery:-

1. SuperUser
2. SuperSU
