Well that didn’t take long, did it! The bootloader and recovery from Google Edition HTC One have been dumped and are now available for download. What does this mean, well this means that we are one step closer to converting our HTC One’s to Google Edition versions. As always do not flash these if you do not know what they are supposed to do, also if you plan on installing the Google Edition bootloader make sure you have a backup of your current bootloader in case things go south.

When AT&T locked down the bootloader on the Samsung Galaxy S4 a lot of custom ROM lovers were disappointed (me being one of them). I fail to understand why US carriers to do so but it is what it is.

Inspite of AT&T’s efforts (all I can say is “You’ll never shut down the real Napster!”, yes I watched Italian Job last night) the bootloader has been unlocked. The method though will be released once the Verizon Galaxy S4 are shipped . Now for some more good news, a few minutes ago @djrbliss tweeted :-

Successfully booted CyanogenMod on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 with no issues.

It looks like once the bootloader unlock method is made public, we wouldn’t have to wait long to play with CyanogenMod on our AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4. Kudos to you @djrbliss, we all love you!

The last few days have been full of news of bootloader unlocks, well today would be no different, the bootloader on the Verizon Note 10.1 has been jailbroken, and you wonder what do we mean by jailbreaking an Android device (more details on that further down the article). Verizon is known for locking bootloaders on it’s devices but it’s always been a cat and mouse game with Android developers.

Thanks to xda developers recognized elite developer Adam Outler the Note 10.1 on Verizon is now a free bird. Please note the process will also install TWRP recovery on your Verzion Note 10.1. Now, coming back to using the term jailbreak, well I’ll have to quote Adam for an answer to that:-

Hey, you can’t jailbreak an Android.. yeah, i know, but “Jailbreak” is a protected act under the USA DMCA Exemption of 2012 and “Unlocking” is illegal without carrier permission. There will be no misunderstandings here.

Here is a video tutorial by Adam himself:-

The AT&T Galaxy S4 Bootloader has been hacked, yes boys & girls, nerds & fanboys, you read it right, the bootloader on the AT&T Samsung bootloader has been hacked!.

Dan Rosenberg aka @djrbliss just tweeted the above picture, it says “Samsung Galaxy S4 bootloader hacked by Dan Rosenberg (djrbliss).”. Even though we have no confirmation from Dan that’s it for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 but considering the bootloader on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 is the only one which is locked, it’s obvious that he has hacked the bootloader on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4.

We will keep you updated once the how to do it is available.

Update

djrbliss has confirmed that the picture above infact is the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4, and it does allow to flash custom kernels and recoveries, the release will not be until the Verizon Galaxy S4 starts shipping (which will be in late May). The reason for the delayed release being that Verizon is notorious for locking bootloaders as well and in all probability the bootloader on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 will be locked as well, to prevent his exploit from being patched (in case it is released) the release of the exploit has been delayed which makes sense.

Also, we and djrbliss ask you not to take any updates if you want to unlock your bootloader once the exploit is made public.

To date, the AT&T model has been confirmed to ship with a locked bootloader and also additional security checks of boot and recovery partitions. Verizon will like continue their locked bootloader policy with the S4. The addition of U.S. Cellular to the unlocked list makes things a bit more hopeful for those waiting to hear about the T-Mobile Galaxy S4′s status.

It is a wootful (yes I just came up with that word :P) day for Motorola owners. A one click tool to unlock bootloaders on Motorola devices has been released.

Dan Rosenberg aka djrbliss has gone ahead and revealed it all, in a very detailed post he has given a complete rundown on how bootloader unlocking works and also what part of the code he has exploited to achieve what he has. In case the nerd inside you wants to know how it was done you can read the full content here. We are pretty sure Motorola will block the exploit with an update so if you want to unlock the bootloader do so at the earliest and do not take any OTA updates on your devices.
