The Nexus 4 is joining its siblings with a small update to KitKat 4.4.1, which includes a few camera fixes. System update notifications are popping up for Nexus 4 owners everywhere, letting them know build KOT49E is ready for download.

Missing your notice? You can download the  KOT49E OTA from the link below and sideload it using adb.

1. Download and save to your adb folder
2. Turn your Nexus 4 off and reboot into bootloader mode by holding Power and Volume Down
3. Select Recovery using the Volume Up and press power to confirm
4. At the red triangle, press Power and Volume Up and you should see the recovery menu
5. Use the volume keys again to scroll through the menu to highlight Apply update from adb and press Power to confirm
6. On your computer, open a terminal window and enter the command:

adb sideload 0896df95085b6ad55bbe4694a612da0c6ed2fa1c.signed-occam-KOT49E-from-KRT16S.0896df95.zip

Let your Nexus 4 do its thing, reboot and enjoy!

Translucent status and navigation bar in lock screen for Nexus 4

One of the good aesthetic changes Android 4.4 Kit Kat brought is translucent status and navigation bars. Unfortunately, just like Google Experience Launcher ( GEL ), these are exclusive to Nexus 5.

For the users still rocking the Nexus 4, Floydfire, a Senior Member at XDA, has decompiled, modded and recompiled the framework of Android 4.4 Kit Kat factory images so that you can have status and navigation bars translucent in home screen and lock screen. You will need to install the Google Experience Launcher (click here to download) also if you want translucent bars in home screen.

Download the appropriate recovery flashable zip files based on your Android 4.4 build number. You will need to have unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed on your device.

Android 4.4 update rolling out to Nexus 4

It’s time to tap the update button on your Nexus 4 as Android 4.4 KitKat is now rolling out as an OTA update.

The update is about 238 MB in size and the build number is KRT16S, slightly newer than KRT16O. This suggests that Google has sorted out some bugs in KitKat and pushing a new build to Nexus 4.

Nexus 4 getting Android 4.4 KitKat update after Moto X on Verizon, a non Nexus device might be surprising, but it’s always a good thing to get a stable bug-free build.

Still waiting for Android 4.4 OTA update for your Nexus device? No need to wait more as Google has posted Android 4.4 KitKat factory images for Nexus 4, Nexus 7 ( 2012 and 2013, both WiFi and Cellular ) and Nexus 10. Build number is Android 4.4 KRT16O for all the three devices, seems to be newer than the build KRT16M on Nexus 5.

For those of you with either of the Nexus 7′s or Nexus 10 you’d better start mashing that “system updates” button through the next day or so because the three devices are receiving the 4.4 KitKat OTA update today.

According to the +Android Google page the wifi models for both Nexus 7′s and the Nexus 10 will receive KitKat today and the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7′s with mobile data will receive the update “soon”.

So grab those Nexus 7′s and Nexus 10 and get ready for some KitKat deliciousness.

Multiple screenshots from a Nexus 4 running Android 4.4 have been leaked. The Android version is mentioned as Key Lime Pie and not KitKat so it’s obvious that this is an early build of Android 4.4 but it does give us some important details of what to expect in Android 4.4.

Repeatedly tapping on the build number brought up the letter K along with a piece of lime with cocktail sticks instead of a KitKat bar.

Printing is now an option in Settings pointing to the fact that Android 4.4 will have built in support for printing.

There is also an option for Payments which proves that Android 4.4 will have native payment support via NFC.

Another option added is support for Wireless screen casting via the Miracast standard built into the system.

The last important option added is to “Manage Mobile Plan” which adds the the ability to manage data when device is being used as personal hotspot, a pretty nifty feature for peeps who use there device as a hotspot.

Look wise there  are not many differences on the lock screen, home screens, dock and notification bar when compared to JellyBean.

Google Keep and Drive will now be part of Google apps and will come pre-installed with Android 4.4.

The app which has been enhanced the most is the stock Camera app, filters have been added and printing is now an option when you are viewing an image.

• options to Export your edited image in a size of your choice with adjustable quality slider
• Print is now a menu option when viewing an image, also allows you to save your image as a PDF locally or view network printers and print out a hard copy

Previously leaked screenshot of Android 4.4 KitKat running on Nexus 5 had white status bar icons giving rise to rumors of a change in color scheme on Android 4.4 KitKat.

This color change of icons is giving rise to rumors that Android 4.4 KitKat may come with inbuilt theme support. Inbuilt theme support would be a good feature to have on Android 4.4 KitKat for peeps who prefer the old blue color scheme of Android. Let’s see what Google comes with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Nexus 4 owners can now install multiple roms on their Nexus 4 using Multi ROM. You can install any number of roms you want and when you boot up your Nexus 4 you will get an option to select the rom you want to boot into. The only drawback (if you may call it a drawback) is that you can’t use Android 4.2.2 and Android 4.3 roms together.

It can boot any Android ROM as well as other systems like Ubuntu Touch (not yet).Besides booting from device’s internal memory, MultiROM can boot from USB drive connected to the device via OTG cable. The main part of MultiROM is a boot manager, which appears every time your device starts and lets you choose ROM to boot. You can see how it looks on the left image below and in gallery. ROMs are installed and managed via modified TWRP recovery. You can use standard ZIP files to install secondary Android ROMs, daily prebuilt image files to install Ubuntu Touch and MultiROM even has its own installer system, which can be used to ship other Linux-based systems.

Days after Android 4.3 was released we now have proof that the Nexus 7 & Nexus 4 are already running Key Lime Pie. Chromium bug tracker shows the Nexus 7 & Nexus 4 on build number KRS36B. Going by Google’s history of naming build numbers wherein the first alphabet of the build number is the name we are pretty sure it’s Key Lime Pie running on the Nexus 7 & Nexus 4.

Rumor has it that sometime this fall Google will release the new Nexus 10, the new Nexus 4 (call it Nexus 5) & Key Lime Pie (call it Android 5.0).
