Android 4.4 Google apps from Nexus 5 dump – Launcher, Search, Camera,Hangouts, Gmail and more

It looks Android 4.4 Google Apps are working on majority of devices running other Android versions. Some may work and some others may not depending on the Android OS version. That said, majority of the apps are working on devices running Android 4.3 ( both stock and OEM skinned versions ). These apps are extracted from Nexus 5 system dump.

Here are the links to the apps. Download, install and enjoy the latest software until your device gets Android 4.4 KitKat or wait for any developer to port the ROM.

Download the zip containing all the apps here. 

To get the launcher working you need to install below 3 apps in the order specified.

Google Play Services 4.0
Google Search
Google Home .apk

Android 4.4 KitKat G-apps available, also from Paranoid Android

Google Apps package for custom ROMs based on Android 4.4 JellyBean AOSP is available and you can download it from Dev-Host here

Paranoid Android team also made their version of G-apps based on Android 4.4 Kitkat available. You can download this package from ParanoidAndroid website here

Google Apps package contains propitiatory Google applications that cannot be bundled with any of custom ROMs like cyanogenmod, paranoidandroid, aokp etc due to licensing restrictions with Google.

They come pre-installed in almost all Android devices, but not with custom ROMs. Though custom ROMs work without gapps, for complete Android experience these are recommended. Google Apps package contains apps like Google Play Services, Play Store, Gmail , Maps etc. Some of these apps can also be downloaded from play store.

Barnes and Noble Nook HD and Nook HD+ getting Google Play and Google Apps in upcoming update

One of my all time favorite devices is the Original Nook Color.  The development for that device was unreal (still going strong), and one of the fun things to do to that device was getting Gapps (Google Apps) on that sucker.  When I had it, putting CM7 on there with Gapps made it feel like a Gingerbread Nexus device that worked well.  The Nook HD and Nook HD+ won’t look like a Nexus but it will have all of the same apps.

Good news for you Nook HD and NOOK HD+ owners today.  CEO William Lynch realizes that apps on tablets is crucial for it’s success and the update starting today will bring Google Play and  Google Apps to the 7- inch and 9-inch tablets.

We saw coming off holiday the market moved to multifunction tablets. Consumer research showed us the breadth of applications available is really critical.

The Amazon Kindle Fire line up has a pretty nice app selection, but this news for the Nook HD and Nook HD+ could sway a lot of potential future tablet customers.  People love apps…..  that’s just what Barnes and Noble has delivered.

It seems Google planted a new app on our devices. I turned my phone on this morning and noticed a new app in my app drawer called Google Settings.
It doesn’t seem to be much so put the pitchforks and torches away. There are a few simple settings in there that can easily be done else where but I guess the brass at Google figured they’d be helping us out by making these features easier accessible. Why wouldn’t they?  It makes it easier for the average user to get tied in to their ecosystem.
As far as I can tell its nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. When the “we need your Social Security number app” comes out, then we grab the pitchforks.
So head to your app drawer, open the app and maybe it will be helpful to you (there is an ad mob ads check box).
