AOKP announces its Android 4.4 KitKat build plans

AOKP has updated its plans on Android 4.4 KitKat builds for various devices.It looks there will be a final milestone build for Android 4.3 JellyBean. Half of the Team Kang will work on those builds resolving the issues and final build with no ssues will be coming to most of the devices ( ofcourse, those that already have current AOKP builds ).

The other half of team will start on Android 4.4 KitKat. Team Kang also posted they were reorganized internally resulting in a streamlined approach to correct slow releases.

First builds based on Android 4.4 will just be barebones and new features will be added very quickly. There is no ETA or exact timeframe but you can expect the Nightlies based on Android 4.4 soon.

Here is the full post from AOKP

We’re preparing to tackle KitKat, and get you those 4.4 builds you’ve been craving. However, we’re not quite out of Jelly Beans… and we’re not a fan of storing leftovers. So…

Coming soon will be a final Milestone build for 4.3. We’ve set half of our team on ironing out the short list of issues we’ve had with it, and a final build will be coming for MOST of your devices. Unfortunately a few here and there will have an issue or two left unresolved… they won’t get a Milestone build. Sorry up front! That shouldn’t dissuade you from enjoying our final super-stable nightly build!

The other half of the team is getting started on 4.4, and we’re starting clean. We’ve reorganized internally, and will be approaching KitKat in a far more streamlined fashion in an effort to correct the admittedly slooooow releases we suffered from in 4.3. This restructuring will allow us to keep as much of “our” code separate from mainline AOSP, making updates faster and easier. We’ll also be strictly enforcing our updated code submission guidelines to adhere to what we need to have everything tidy and clean.

What this means, dearest Kanglings, is that our first 4.4 release will be nearly barebones AOSP… however, the features will start pouring back very quickly, and hopefully the new approach on the back-end translates to faster updates for all of you fine folks. Nightlies for 4.4 are just on the horizon, and we’ll see them soon.

Regarding the word “soon” – putting deadline dates on these goals of ours would be very stressful, so we don’t. ETAs make the unicorn (perfect code) we’re chasing fade away. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s for the best! We will share all of the details as quickly as we decide what they are!

Thanks for using our ROM. Thanks for your patience. Thanks for making all our effort worthwhile. Thanks most of all, for sharing with us the love of Android.

~Team Kang

AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) Rom is now available for the AT&T Galaxy S4. AT&T Galaxy S4 owners have been waiting for custom roms for quite some time now, but the wait is finally over thanks to Loki from djrbliss.

The installation steps are pretty simple:-

Install custom recovery (TWRP or CWM whatever you prefer).

Download the rom and gapps from here.

Boot into recovery and do a Nandroid

Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, then go into mounts & storage and format system (if using CWM). To format system in TWRP, select Wipe then System

Flash ROM and Gapps downloaded in Step 2

Reboot and wait for a few minutes, the first boot does take some time

The HTC Droid DNA is one hell of a phone, it’s 1080p display is the best I have seen till date. Trust me when I say it beats the display on the Samsung Galaxy S4 hands down. I am yet to get my hands on the HTC One so cannot talk about the One though. But all things aside, the Droid DNA just got an unofficial port of the beloved PACman rom.

PACMan rom combines all the features of CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android and some features from AOKP into one single rom. Below are the bugs in the current build for PACMan rom for the Droid DNA.

BT headset audio

Camera

GPS can be bit wonky at times

Please note this is still a work in progress and the camera, blue tooth audio do not work as of now but it shouldn’t be long before everything is working. You need to have an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery installed, if you are s-off then you need not flash the kernel separately. In case you are not s-off then you need to flash the kernel from fastboot.

So you love CyanogenMod, you want AOKP and you just drool over Paranoid Android but you can run only one of them at one time, right? Wrong, PACman ROM is now available for Oppo Find 5.

PACman ROM brings to you the features of CyanogenMod, AOKP and Paranoid Android in one single ROM, so you don’t have to worry about missing either of them. Even though I am not an Android developer but I am pretty sure merging code from various other sources and not breaking anything is pretty hard, so creating PACman rom for any device won’t be easy. Below are the features of PACman ROM:-

* All in One Rom [CM, AOKP and PA]
* PhoneUI, TabletUI, PhabletUI
* Latest Version 22.0.1
* Some Features from AOKP
* All Feautures from PA
* All Features from CM
* Of course JellyBean 4.2.2

Download links and installations instructions can be found here.

AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) is in the One house, unofficial AOKP alpha build for the HTC One is now available peeps.

This is a very early build and is an alpha so do not expect all the hardware to work, but all in all it’s good news that the HTC One is getting some custom ROM love. Below is a list of what doesn’t work:-
LTE
In-Call Audio Headphones/Headsets
Bluetooth
Camera
IR sensor

As you can see it’s far from being a daily driver but then again it’s an alpha build so don’t expect miracles from the build, flash it only if you want to get a feel of AOKP on your HTC One.

Download links can be found here and the drill is the same, download the rom and gapps, wipe data and cache from recovery and flash the downloaded files.

The Pink Unicorn (or AOKP as you may know them) now has over 1 million installs, yes you read it right, 1 followed by 6 zeroes. The guys at Team Kang need a pat on the back for all the work they put into bringing new features to us, personally I prefer AOKP over CM but then again that’s my personal opinion.

Team Kang also announced that there BuildBot will pump out new nightly (call it quad nightly) builds every 4 days which may change in the future. They also released a new app called AOKPush. The app will send you a push notification when a build is complete and ready to download, you will also get the available test builds & random fun messages from the Team Kang.

Below is a brief description of the app from Team Kang themselves :-

AOKPush uses the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) service provided by Google since Jelly Bean. GCM is integrated into the Android framework, eg. the application does not use any extra battery nor wakes up the device periodically to fetch data.

There are 4 feeds you can subscribe to:
- Milestone feed: official milestone releases by AOKP
- Nightly feed: official (automatic) nightly releases by AOKP
- Test feed: unofficial test releases by AOKP developers
- Fun feed: messages from the Unicorn barn

Cheers to AOKP & Team Kang, keep up the awesome work peeps.
