If your watching some football today and have a few bucks ($35) laying around for an awesomely cool toy, head on over to the Play Store an pick one up. They’re in stock now, and we all know the Chromecast story by now. In other words… I wouldn’t wait if you really want one.

If the Play Store is by any chance out of stock by the time you read this, head on over to CellTraderOnline. Some of the fine folks over there may have one for sale.

A report by App Annie Blog, who collects & reviews download and revenue data of various App Stores across countries and various other categories reveals that total app downloads in Q2 2013 from Google’s Android Play Store were 10% higher than those from Apple’s iOS App Store.

Though Google Play excels in total app downloads, total app revenue generated out of iOS App Store way higher (2.3x) than the revenue generated out of Android Play Store.

The report also reveals several interesting facts like emerging markets ( India & Brazil ) are in the list of top 5 countries by downloads. This reiterates the fact that Google holds strong grip in emerging markets.

Unites States, South Korea, India, Russia & Brazil tops the list of countries by total downloads in Play Store where asJapan,South Korea, United States, Germany & United kingdom tops the list of countries by total revenue.

An update to Google Play Services is being rolled out as we speak (we are yet to get the update on any of our devices though), but the guys over at Android Police have got hands on it and done a teardown of the apk.

The teardown reveals that the new version will be 3.1.36, and references to Play Games. There will be badges, achievements, scoring and leaderboards. Cool, ain’t it! Well, it would be great if I can race with my friends using my Android device or play a game of chess with my uncle.

How Google Play games will work would only be known at Google I/O is our educated guess. In case of of our readers get the update and can hook us up with the apk that would be highly appreciated.

For more details on the teardown head over to Android Police.

Barnes and Noble Nook HD and Nook HD+ getting Google Play and Google Apps in upcoming update

One of my all time favorite devices is the Original Nook Color. The development for that device was unreal (still going strong), and one of the fun things to do to that device was getting Gapps (Google Apps) on that sucker. When I had it, putting CM7 on there with Gapps made it feel like a Gingerbread Nexus device that worked well. The Nook HD and Nook HD+ won’t look like a Nexus but it will have all of the same apps.

Good news for you Nook HD and NOOK HD+ owners today. CEO William Lynch realizes that apps on tablets is crucial for it’s success and the update starting today will bring Google Play and Google Apps to the 7- inch and 9-inch tablets.

We saw coming off holiday the market moved to multifunction tablets. Consumer research showed us the breadth of applications available is really critical.

The Amazon Kindle Fire line up has a pretty nice app selection, but this news for the Nook HD and Nook HD+ could sway a lot of potential future tablet customers. People love apps….. that’s just what Barnes and Noble has delivered.

What do you guys think?

How to unroot any Android device one click app

You read it right folks! If you just Googled “one click unroot app for any Android device”, you’ve come to the right place. Fresh to the Google Play Store is the app Universal Unroot. It sells for $0.99 and could be worth every penny if you’re in a predicament and need your Android device unrooted. If you have a device that you’re not all that familiar with and aren’t really sure how to go about unrooting that sucker, this app could be a lifesaver.

I can’t say I’m for “one click” unroot and root apps but I can’t say I’m against them either. I do know this app could come in very handy for someone that may have bought a device off Craigslist or Ebay and it’s rooted, they want nothing to do with root and have no idea how to unroot their newly purchased rooted Android device.

I for one say this app is worth every penny developer BATAKANG is asking for this one click unroot app. For just under a buck it could save you a lot of time and research if you couldn’t care less about your device being rooted. Heck! If you are a hacker this app is worth every penny in my opinion.

Now for a few words from the man himself -

Universal Unroot will Unroot ANY Android powered device that is already Rooted and has a form of Superuser installed. Simply hit the ‘UNROOT’ button and allow Root Access when asked to give it permission. The device will then reboot and you will be completely Unrooted when you boot back up. This is a great app for those who are trying to complete a warranty return with a carrier for a defective device hardware or a repair. If you only want to temporarily lose Root Access, this app is not for you. Unrooting is permanent and cannot be undone with this app. Only use this if you truly want to lose Root Access. If this does not Unroot a single device, e-mail me to get support added for your device and the cost of the app refunded to you if you did not do so in the 15 minute window provided by Google Play. Don’t rate badly if it doesn’t work for you, refund and e-mail

Great app! Great dev! Possible life saver! If you’re looking for a one click unroot app hit the Google Play Store and unroot that sexy device of yours.

I remember the “Market Place” when I activated The OG HTC Evo. I was both blown away and like what the hell are all of these crap apps doing floating around with different names but the same app?! The beauty of Google and Android is the openness of eveerything, it can also rear it’s ugly head at ya.

I for one am thankful Google is cracking down on some of these crapplications. They’re still going to keep it wide open for developers, but let’s hope that this is an eye opener for any app spammer that may be looking at the Google play store to make a quick buck.

I’m not saying I want to see the Google Play Store become anything like the Apple App Sore, but it’s nice to see Google tidy up 60,000 pieces of trash from it’s 700,000 app selection.

Some words of wisdom -

Developers are important partners in maintaining a great user experience on Google Play.

Do not post repetitive content.

Product descriptions should not be misleading or loaded with keywords in an attempt to manipulate ranking or relevancy in the Store’s search results.

Developers also should not attempt to change the placement of any Product in the Store by rating an application multiple times, or by offering incentives to users to rate an application with higher or lower ratings.

Apps that are created by an automated tool or wizard service must not be submitted to Google Play by the operator of that service on behalf of other persons.

Do not post an app where the primary functionality is to: Drive affiliate traffic to a website or provide a webview of a website not owned or administered by you (unless you have permission from the website owner/administrator to do so)

Do not send SMS, email, or other messages on behalf of the user without providing the user with the ability to confirm content and intended recipient.

What say everyone here at AFN? Have you noticed less garbage in the Google Play Store lately?
