Don’t let the name fool you. Although CellTraderOnline is a place where the most current and up to date cell phones, tablets and laptops are sold, bought and traded. These guys do have all the newest gadgets for sale and trade. Looking for a Note 3 or an LG G2? CTO’s got you covered. The latest Android and iOS tablets on the shelves? They got em. Laptops? Yup.

There’s something else this forum offers besides the latest gadgets for sale or trade (it is the best dam place to conduct this kind of business BTW). CTO is filled with knowledgeable users from all over the world that have answers to any kind of cellphone, tablets, carriers(GSM and CDMA) and every other geeky answer you need. Or, if you want to shoot the crap about your new gadget, football team or day, they have an off topic forum and thread that makes you feel at home. The mods and admins don’t give you one word answers to questions just pointing you in the right direction. These guys take the time to learn everyone’s first name! Very nice touch and feels good. The users give all of the same considerations. You’ll NEVER see “you’re in the wrong section NOOB, bring it to Q&A” (sound familiar?). Need to know what phone will work on what carrier? I guarantee Kevin has the answer. Is Dallas or San Francisco the better football team? Dave will tell ya. Need help getting acquainted with the rules placed at CTO for buying, selling and trading? Mike, Justin and the gang will be there to assist you and make you feel at home (these guys are the best of the best). Have some Dev or gaming questions? Ask Ken.

I think you get my point. CTO is hands down the best place to upgrade, downgrade or sell your gadget to make a few bucks. Just as important it’s a place we all love to hang, brag about our gadgets, ask questions and make some friends in the process. Stop by! Sell, buy and trade your gadgets. While you’re waiting for a bite, come chew the fat with us.

Two of my favorite colors are purple and green. For this article I’m going to show you all what I have in mind for my Verizon Moto X. Because I love CellTraderOnline, and will most likely be trading my Moto X down the road, I’ll skip the whole engraving part (although “handsome devil” would look pretty sweet on that Cabernet purple).

Even though this is an AT&T exclusive for now, it’s still interesting to see everyone’s custom Moto X.

Holding the New Nexus 7 in portrait and landscape

Bezels in portrait can be a little thin at times

So you got the New Nexus 7 or have one coming any day now? Let me fill you in on my thoughts of the new shape factor with the 2013 Nexus 7.

Google claims the 2013 Nexus 7 has the best display of any tablet available. That’s hard to argue with, with a 7.02 inch, 1920×1200, 1080p HD IPS display at 323 ppi. Watching movies, reading text and playing games is an absolute dream on the New Nexus 7. The viewing angles are mind blowing, the colors aren’t over saturated and the blacks are impressive, even if not AMOLED-like. For any hard core Android geek or anyone looking to get their feet wet in the tablet world, the New Nexus 7 is with out a doubt the best bang for your buck at $229 for the 16g model.

Now let’s talk about holding this beauty

Last year when I got my 2012 Nexus 7 I was in Android geek heaven. Out of the box it was running Android version 4.1, it was a 7 inch Nexus device, it was blazing fast (we all know how the blazing fast story turns out, hopefully 4.3 TRIM support will help this over time) and it was the 7 inch tablet I’d been always waiting for. Except for the bezels. After holding and playing with an iPad mini, I was wishing the 2012 Nexus 7 had thinner bezels all around. Be-careful what you wish for.

Fast forward a year to me getting my paws on the 2013 Nexus 7. The very first thing I noticed upon firing it up was the absolutely mind blowing display, thinner bezels side to side and still gigantic bezels top and bottom. The 16:10 aspect ratio made the 2013 Nexus 7 look like the 2012 Nexus 7 had gone through a growth spurt but shedded a few pounds on the sides. This is where I have problems holding the tablet at times. If you notice in the above video, occasionally holding it in portrait mode by the bezel, your thumb can accidentally interact with the screen. For example, from time to time holding the Nexus 7 in portrait your thumb can long press a home screen and pull up the wallpaper changer or browsing the web, that same pesky thumb can trigger a tab or link that may be on the very sides of the site. This by no means takes anything away from the New Nexus 7, but merely an observation. It could be that I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and the 2012 Nexus 7 for the past few months and am used to having the big bezels all around.

left 2012 Nexus 7, right 2013 Nexus 7

Don’t let this observation deter you from getting the New Nexus 7. If you have bigger hands like myself, you may have to palm the tablet or switch to landscape when doing certain tasks. If you have smaller hands the side bezels shouldn’t be an issue at all. I for one am absolutely thrilled with the New Nexus 7 and will just have to learn to hold it differently at times.

Hope on over to Cell Trader Online to buy the Nexus 7 or devices just like it.

Free motion detector app for the paranoid

Ever wonder what’s doing when you’re not at home or work? Motion Detector Pro is a free app in the Play Store that will keep you well informed of what’s going on while you’re gone.

Motion Detector Pro does just what it’s supposed to do. It uses the front or rear facing camera to capture shots that trigger the motion sensor in this crafty little app. Once the app is triggered by any kind of motion, it instantly takes a snap shot of the object in motion outlined in a red border. As you can see from the picture above, the app snapped a pic of me as I was exiting work the other night (still handsome even after a 12 hour day in a 110 degree kitchen).

The beauty of this app is in the settings, you can have the pictures sent instantly to your email (as in the pic above) or sent to you via text message. So, whoever or whatever you’re trying to catch a photo of can destroy the phone, but the evidence has already been sent. Their are also sensitivity settings in the app. If you want it set to catch every motion in the viewing area, you can crank the sensitivity settings up. If you’re looking for less sensitivity and looking to catch larger objects moving (like a sweaty chef) and not every dust molecule, you can turn the sensitivity settings down a bit.

I own a restaurant and use this app on a few phones that I place throughout the restaurant when I leave at night. This is by no means a security system and if you’re really looking to catch the bad guy then invest in a real security system. If you’re looking for a little peace of mind while you’re away and want to know when there is any kind of movement in your establishment or home, then Motion Detector Pro will work just fine. I’ve actually almost called the police on my business partner that has triggered the app getting a late night snack, but the pic in the email showed me it was him so all was good. We also have a security system in place, but like I said, its just peace of mind knowing I’ll get in an instant shot of any kind of movement when I’m not around.

The only downside to this app is you have to use your phone. Luckily for me I have stacks of Android phones laying around (pic above taken with an HTC Evo LTE, which has a decent camera), so I have the luxury to place a couple phones around. Luckily there are sites like CTO and Swappa to pick up Android devices at decent prices. Check the description below for more details and settings from the Dev himself.

Description –

This app enables you to use your android device as a remote surveillance camera or spy cam with motion detection functionality.
Motion Detector Pro is a camera surveillance app, that uses the built-in camera to detect movements in the surrounding area using an advanced motion detection algorithm. If it detects movement it sends an email or a text message with a picture link to another cell phone, allowing you to remotely monitor an area using your Android phone. Motion Detector Pro can:
✓ Take a picture when the camera sees a movement and send it to an email or another phone. Great for catching thieves, watching your business/home or keeping an eye on your pet
✓ Start surveillance remotely by using text messsages (with password protection)
✓ Indicate realtime on the phones display where the movement is detected
✓ Stealth mode which closes the app as soon as the phone is touched
✓ Store the surveillance images on the cloud or locally on the phones SD-card

Have an Android phone, iPhone or Tablet laying around but you’re really craving another device or gadget?

Cell Trader Online is the best place to be if you’re in a predicament like the one I stated above! There are a few online trading sites but I say Cell Trader Online is the best because of a these reasons.

- It’s a tight knit community, where everyone knows each other and almost always willing to lend a helping hand or give sound advice

- Everyone there has knowledge in one area or another…. whether you have a question about carriers, gadget worth, who ships first, condition rating questions and so on.

- It’s become a reputable site with mods that truly have the best interest in us users having the best trading, selling or buying experience possible.

- It’s tapatalk compatible. If you’re on the run and need to stay in contact with the person you’re doing a transaction with it’s a click of an app.

- Most of these members trade gadgets like it’s their job so they need to keep their reputation in a positive light so other members don’t have any concerns.

- It’s FREE to join (who doesn’t like free?)

- And most of all we talk cougars all day! Just kidding. It’s a great bunch of people over there from all over the world.

- I could keep the list going but I think you get the idea.

I recently had the urge to go all pure Google with my devices. I had the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a Nexus 7 and an Acer Chrome Book. I was missing two pieces to the puzzle, the Galaxy Nexus (because I’m on Verizon) and the Nexus 10. So what the hell? Let me put my mint Note 2 on CTO and see if I can get a Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 10. BOOM! It happened! I’m now the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and a Chrome Book and somebody else is a happy camper with there new shiny Note 2. That’s pure win if you ask me. BTW…. this is just one trade of many that I have done with the fine folks over at CTO.

As always use your head when you’re thinking of trading or selling your expensive gadget. There are still creeps in this world. So keep an eye on peoples feedback, posts and most of all your gut feeling. There’s also off topic forums over at CTO where you can express your questions or concerns and I promise you someone will have a solid answer or advice for you.

To wrap this up I’m just going to say in my personal trading experiences Cell Trader Online is hands down the best and most reputable gadget trading, selling and buying site around.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to CTO, make an account and start yucking it up with all of the local yocals. I’ve made quite a few friends over there. A bunch of great guys! Like a brotherhood!
