this did not work for me, my phone just stays in download mode and kies just gets a little darker on screen an cant be clicked on

Give it some time and it will boot. First boot after a factory restore takes some time.

Hello Kelvin,

This is equivalent to a factory restore so TWRP or any custom recovery will be removed.

I did this but it just stays stuck on the Samsung splash logo. doesnt move what so ever!.

Worked great mine was soft bricked wouldn’t turn on it will just vibrate but I got it to download mode and it worked fine so thanks you so so much
